With heavy hearts, we announce that Rhéal passed away on April 22, 2019 at the age of 60 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Tannis; children Morgan (Troy), Katelyn (Justin); mother Laurette; siblings Maurice (Lisa), Michelle (Marty), Mona (Darren), Rob (Barb); extended family Rob (Georgina) and family, Kurt (Rosa) and family, as well as many more family and friends.
Rhéal was born on October 2, 1958. From an early age he developed the lifelong skill of working hard as he would deliver newspapers and worked after school at a grocery store. He was a very intelligent and logical person which made him a good student. Rhéal would go on to work for over 25 years at Procurity Inc. and was able to enjoy two great years of retirement.
During his retirement, Rhéal took full advantage of life. He loved golfing and would quite often spend the day golfing with his family, brothers, and in-laws. He would always say that he was so much busier being retired than he was when he was working. Along with golfing, Rhéal enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. Both of these things were on his bucket list and he was able to enjoy both before he passed.
Travelling was one of Rhéal’s favourite things to do. He travelled often through work, but his favourite vacations were the ones with his family. Mexico was one of his favourite places to be as he vacationed there with his family on more than one occasion. Even though he enjoyed travelling, his favourite place to be was with his family, especially at the cabin. His perfect day would involve a fire, music, and his family by his side.
Rhéal had many passions in life. Once he became invested in something he just couldn’t stop. He started participating in the SMD Drop Zone and was one of their top raisers every year. Not only did he just do the drop zone, he also became a member of the SMD board.
Later in his life, when the Jets came back to Winnipeg, he was a very big Winnipeg Jets fan. Rhéal did his best to never miss a game, whether he was able to attend or just watch it on t.v. He was so excited when he was able to attend functions with Winnipeg Jets players and would make sure to take pictures to share with his family.
Rhéal was a man who loved life. He was strong and enjoyed building and working with his hands. He was quick witted and could always come up with some sort of comeback or joke at any given time. Rhéal was a funny, goofy man. He would do what he could to make everyone laugh, whether that was with jokes, funny pictures, or dancing. He loved to dance and he loved his music. His family will live on to have many memories of him asking who know’s who sings the song, him blasting his favourite music, and sitting by the fire with some tunes. He was a wonderful, compassionate man, and he will be missed dearly.
He fought his cancer with all his might, pushing through additional treatments and tests, with his devoted wife and children by his side, until his passing at home surrounded in love with his family. Where he wanted to be all along.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rhéal’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba are greatly appreciated.
