ELIZABETH MARGARET ANN SPENCER
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth Spencer (Betty Ann/ B.A.) on April 23, 2020. She will rest in peace in God’s arms beside her beloved husband Richard and parents who predeceased her. Elizabeth leaves to mourn her only daughter Tammy (Abraham), son in-law Robert and five beautiful grandchildren Mackenzie, Nevin, Syerra, Kassidy and Trinity. She also leaves behind her three younger brothers Wayne, Ronnie, Gerry, their wives, all her nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Betty Ann was born on Sept. 1, 1945 in Russell, Manitoba. She grew up in Inglis and Shellmouth. B.A. loved helping out with cooking taking care of her three brothers, reading, dancing, singing, and swimming. Her family moved to Winnipeg and settled in Windsor Park in the late 50’s where she attended many of the new schools in the area.
She followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a teacher. She was a dedicated educator, with unique ideas, a vast knowledge, who was loved by her students and colleagues. B.A. taught a range of levels from K-6. She adored being in charge of the school musicals which were always a huge hit at Dawson Trail School. She taught at DTS for over 20 years and left a lasting impression.
Betty Ann married Richard on July 4,1970. Richard always had a way of making her laugh and they loved going on road trips to places near and far. They often went on picnics, played scrabble, and fancied trying out new restaurants. They had their one and only daughter Tammy in 1976. She loved Tammy with all her heart and enjoyed taking her to baton and dance lessons. She helped out on many baton committees and made many new friends. She enjoyed having summers off to spend with Tammy lounging by their pool and entertaining guests. She was an amazing cook and everyone looked forward to her Sunday dinners.
Betty Ann loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations throughout the years. One of her fondest memories is the two month Europe trip she took in 1985 with her husband and daughter. She would still laugh and reminisce decades later about all the wonderful things they saw and did.
In 2005 Betty Ann and Richard fulfilled a dream of buying a cottage at Island Beach on Lake Winnipeg. They enjoyed spending time watching sunsets, reading, and breathing in the fresh air. They were blessed with 41 years of marriage.
Betty Ann was a devoted grandmother who took pride in taking care of each of her grandchildren before they went off to begin their own education journey. She had a special and unique bond with each grandchild which they will cherish forever.
B.A. spent the last 7 years of her life living with her daughter, son in-law and grandchildren. She was the manager that kept everything running smoothly in the household. She enjoyed every moment and loved taking care of everyone and did so until her last day. She found happiness in watching her grandchildren splash in the pool, goofing around, helping them with schoolwork, reading to them, cooking for them and cuddling them. We will deeply miss her daily presence in our lives. We will find comfort in your presence through a gentle breeze, warm rainbow showers, and the sun shining on our face. We know that you are only a whisper away and you will hear our prayers from our heart. We loved you deeply and will forever cherish all the time we spent together. God Bless You!
